SmartVideo Extends Cellular Reach Video player solution for Symbian operating system phones (June 29, 2004)

SmartVideo Technologies, Inc. today announced that it has certified a solution for distribution of live and on-demand video content to Symbian operating system cellular SmartPhones.

SmartVideo?s cellular solutions provide for live and on-demand streaming of video, eliminating the need for protracted downloads which are barriers to active viewers and put at risk the intellectual property of content owners.

The solution extends SmartVideo?s reach from less than 10% of the SmartPhone market to over 75%, a value forecasted at over $1.7 billion for the U.S. in 2007, according to In-Stat / MDR ?Mobile Video Services in the U.S., 2004 ? 2009.? The In-Stat / MDR report also states that key drivers of market growth include ?? breaking news, children?s programming, mobile reference, sports, and adult video. Studios and other content providers, recognizing a lucrative new distribution channel, will release an increasing variety of content for mobile video, much of it optimized for the ?smallest screen?.? The Company is in active dialogue with most major content owners in these venues, developing strategies to distribute their content to this rapidly emerging market.

Microsoft operating system SmartPhones, supported by SmartVideo for over a year, are available from most major cellular carriers. With a choice of more than 25 different phone models, projected ownership is expected to exceed 42 million units by 2007. With the addition of the Symbian operating system capability, SmartVideo?s universe has been extended into lower price-point SmartPhones. The Symbian-based SmartPhones are available from most cellular carriers with a wide choice of phone models from the major manufacturers including Nokia, Motorola, Samsung, Sony Ericsson, and others. It is estimated that by 2007, Symbian-based SmartPhones will exceed 84 million units.

?Today?s development represents another element in our strategy of being the ubiquitous content distribution network. No other company in the world can deliver the breath of content to audiences at home, at work, or on-the-go,? said Richard E. Bennett, President and CEO of SmartVideo. He further added, ?Narrowband delivery of video is the key to fulfilling a worldwide demand for video services to mobile viewers. Based on market forecast numbers, we see a rapidly emerging mobile television audience, with their mobile televisions on their hips, numbering over 120 million viewers in the near future. Our job is to bridge the gap between the content owners and this new distribution channel.?

Content Insider #148 - The iGen
NO...Doesn't have a thing to do with "that" smartphone...or "that" store...or "that" tablet. It's the next generation. Kids and we mean little kids. That's what today's products are being designed for/targeted at. You happen to buy one...fine. Watch a little, little kid pick up a smartphone. He/she just uses it. They've come pre-wired and we're still trying to figure out how to IM. It's the IGen. They want it instantly. They want to use it instantly. They expect their photos, their video, their music, their stuff immediately when/where/how they want it. Read More

Insider #149 - Game Demographics
The blood, gore, adrenalin challenges that were unveiled at E3 and enjoyed at ComicCon are fun to look at, easy to hold but are they really the games people want to plunk down their credit cards to own or rent time with? Seems as though the investors, the players who control the controllers have a different idea of a "good" game than the kids who develop them. While mobs of people play educational, informational, stimulating games our kid huddles in his room and mumbles "The Few, The Proud, The Gamers." Read More
